Explaining costs to clients

Whichever method advisers choose to calculate fees and disbursements, it is important that they are able to explain to clients how they arrived at the figures that they are charging.

By recording the agreement for services in writing and including considered and well-presented payment terms and conditions within the written agreement, advisers will also ensure that in the event that something goes wrong, they have engaged in a professional practice model that will assist them to protect themselves.

Similarly, if a client subsequently makes a complaint, a clear and comprehensive written agreement will make it much easier to deal with the complaint internally, or enable a complaint to the Immigration Advisers Disciplinary Tribunal to be more easily defended.
