Rescheduled Immigration Operational Policy Seminars – August 2009

Now that you are licensed, you have a responsibility to maintain your professional standards by meeting the Competency Standards, adhering to the Code of Conduct and taking an active role in continuing professional development (CPD).  One of the Authority’s key functions is facilitating the education and professional development of immigration advisers.

Immigration New Zealand and the Authority are pleased to announce that dates have now been confirmed for the policy seminar programme, focused on upcoming changes to the Immigration New Zealand Operations Manual.  The free seminars will now be held on 19 to 21 August 2009.  An invitation to attend is extended to the immigration adviser community, including all licensed immigration advisers and exempt people who provide immigration advice.

Making connections offshore

We have begun communicating in earnest with potential offshore immigration advisers, by finalising a list of offshore advisers. This list was compiled with input from Immigration New Zealand branches and foreign affairs posts overseas. We have sent an email to these advisers with information about licensing, and we will be following this up shortly with a link to a web-based licence application presentation.

We are advising offshore immigration advisers to get their licence applications in as soon as possible.  From 4 May 2010, anyone providing advice offshore on New Zealand immigration matters will need to be licensed unless exempt.  Immigration New Zealand will refuse to accept immigration requests or applications from unlicensed offshore New Zealand immigration advisers (unless exempt) from that date.

Updated publications

We have been updating our publications.  Several of these are now available on our website, including the revised combined code of conduct and competency standards booklet [pdf, 24 pages, 714kB]. Html versions of the standards and code are also available on our website. The updated What does it mean to be a licensed New Zealand immigration adviser? [pdf, 12 pages, 304kB] booklet is available now on our website in PDF format and will soon be available in hard copy. The revised “About applying” booklet will be available in hard copy and on our website shortly. These are all primary resources for the intending licensee.

Changes to Immigration New Zealand medical forms

Immigration New Zealand advises that Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate (INZ 1007) and Temporary Entry Chest X-ray Certificate (INZ 1096) have replaced the certificates dated August 2005 (NZIS 1007) and March 2005 (NZIS 1096).

The format of each form has been updated in accordance with an overall re-design of Immigration New Zealand forms and guidelines and there are some minor amendments to content.  There has been no change to Immigration New Zealand’s health and disability screening policy.

The Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate now includes information for applicants as a detachable insert.  This will help applicants be better prepared for their medical examination.   Some minor clinical amendments have also been made.

One question has been added in section D of the Temporary Entry Chest X-ray Certificate.

The new forms are available on Immigration New Zealand’s website (www.immigration.govt.nz/forms). However, Immigration New Zealand will continue to accept the old forms until 30 November.

A new version of the Medical Examiners Handbook is now available from the Immigration New Zealand website. Hard copies will be available soon.  If you have any questions you can send an email to RICH@dol.govt.nz.
