To be licensed, Immigration Advisers will have to meet competency standards and adhere to a code of conduct

9 Applications received … 4 Licences granted
How do we factor the INZ Adviser activity record into our assessment?
We have received feedback about the accuracy of the data in the adviser activity record. Our 30 June newsletter clearly set out what you need to do to obtain your Immigration New Zealand (INZ) Adviser Activity record, based on your company's client number.
With your application you should:
- Send the activity record to us, or
- If you were an employee, get your employer to break down your applications and sign the document, or
- If your employer can not break down the figures or the INZ figures are wrong, tell us why you consider they are wrong and we will clarify with INZ if required.
In the initial assessment year we will use this information to determine the scale and breadth of the activity against the licence type you are applying for. The INZ Adviser Activity record is therefore only an indication of your interaction with INZ and the types of applications you have been associated with. We will not use the decline figures unless there is something glaring in the volumes that we consider worth investigating.
IELTS advance warning – get in early
For advisers requiring International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS) certificates, please be aware there is traditionally a major pressure point for testing in December to cater for university student IELTS testing. You should book in your IELTS test as soon as possible. A delay in having your IELTS certificate may delay your being able to submit your application.
Our communications materials
Our communications materials developed to date are: an Application booklet; Competency Standards and Code of Conduct; What it means to be a Licensed New Zealand Immigration Adviser; and Immigration Adviser Licensing: What does it mean for migrants? Once a licence is granted you will receive a licence pack containing:
- your licence
- a licence wallet identification card
- two copies of the Code of Conduct booklet for your reception, office or work area
- an A4 pad of the Code of Conduct (the pad contains 100 copies of the Code) with each page being able to be removed and be given to clients, and
- A CD containing the Authority’s Trademark
We also have an A3 copy of the Code of Conduct poster for your reception area.
Client files
Each client file you submit for a full or limited licence must be clearly marked as to whether it is to be considered as a Temporary or Residence immigration matter.
If you submit an application from a client with different types of applications, you must choose which category you wish to submit the client file under (temporary or residence) and also ensure that the matter was either completed, or is still ongoing, within the last two years.
For instance, a client who you assisted with a visitor visa, work and finally for a Skilled Migrant Category visa, may fall within either the temporary or residence categories. If the visitor visa was completed outside the last two years then this would NOT be able to be accepted by the Authority as evidence of a temporary client file.
For each individual immigration matter we expect you to provide the documents listed in the Client File Evidence Check List on page 33 of the application booklet. If you are applying for a Full licence you must provide evidence of two temporary and two residence client files. For a Limited licence you must provide evidence of three client files within the area in which you wish to specialise. At least two of the client files must show a full end-to-end process, including an INZ decision/return of documents to clients etc.
