IMMIGRATION ADVISER LICENSING
A guide for New Zealand employers and recruiters of migrants
Flow chart Description
If you are involved in attracting, advising, recruiting or hiring migrants then you need to be aware that it is illegal for anyone to give immigration advice in New Zealand unless licensed or exempt. Without a licence you can continue to —
- Carry out translations, settlement services and clerical work.
- Refer migrants to publicly available immigration information.
- Refer migrants to INZ, a licensed immigration adviser or someone else legally entitled to give immigration advice because they are exempt.
- Give employment/HR advice — this is not immigration advice.
You can contact the Authority to discuss pathways to licensing in New Zealand.
If you are not involved in attracting, advising, recruiting or hiring migrants then you don't need to do anything.
