Upgrade your licence

You can apply to upgrade your limited or provisional immigration licence if you meet the requirements of our upgrade policy.

This policy sets out the process, evidence and assessment required to upgrade your licence. Your options depend on what type of licence you currently hold.

A limited licence holder may apply to upgrade to a full licence.

A provisional licence holder may apply to upgrade to a full licence or a limited licence.

If your upgrade is successful, your new licence will be valid for one year from either:

  • the date it is granted, or
  • the expiry date of your previous licence, whatever comes first.

Steps to renew

  1. If you have completed the Graduate Certificate in New Zealand Immigration Advice
  2. If you are using client files to upgrade your licence

You can also find out how to renew by checking our Upgrade pathways flowchart.

Please ensure you have completed your forms fully and attached all supporting documents. Incomplete applications will be returned.
